Lifestyle
The life in a house has different qualities based on the context. In urban settings, houses serve as personal retreats, offering rest, comfort, and privacy after a day's work. In contrast, second homes and weekend houses often function as communal spaces, bringing together families, couples, and friends for short-term stays. The Court House responds to this type of life in which the borders of privacy, individuality, and community blend within a relatively small footprint. The narrow linear organization wraps three sides of an inner court. Each bedroom is an autonomous entity with access to the middle court, making it the main congregation space of the house. The roof emphasizes this autonomy. Openings are either minimal frames to nature or full-height doors directly open to the outdoors.
Land
The property is around 2.15 acres of wooded land with an 8 to 10 percent north-south slope. The zoning is low-density residential. A small creek runs at the west end of the property, which will be elevated to a natural landscape feature. The land has an average width of 180' and length of 550'. The property passed the perc test.
