Isfahan Technology Park's Laboratories and Workshops project comprises 17 flexible rental spaces hosting university-based tech start-ups. The proposal was a series of modular 1000-sqft masonry and concrete cells occasionally interrupted by landscape and MEP / storage rooms to sit better into the site's topography and 33' east-west slope and create view corridors to the mountainous landscape in the background. The light metal roof floating over solid volumes brings diffused natural light into the workshop spaces.
The literal application of building regulation was a long linear building, whereas the site slope of 10 meters from west to east required several breaks in the system. In other words, the challenges of design were low cost, fast construction, flexible spaces, building regulation, and site topography.
The proposal was a modular system of concrete construction that was freely interrupted to break a monotonous repetition and get aligned with the topography. The in-between gaps create view corridors, looking at the mountainous landscape in the background. The workshop units were designed in three sizes of 100, 200, and 300 m², while the basic modules of 100 m² give the users the flexibility of merging the adjacent units.
